Designing a voice-to-text intake system that let doctors spend more time with patients — and completed self-registration in under 30 seconds.
The Challenge
Satellite Healthcare needed to modernize its patient intake and documentation process. Practitioners were spending too much time filling out forms — time that should have been spent with patients. The client had identified voice-to-text as the direction but needed a UX that made the technology feel natural, fast, and error-correctable in a clinical setting.
The Approach
I designed a single-button voice capture interface that detected speech and converted it to editable text in real time. The interaction model allowed practitioners to review and correct misinterpreted entries by tapping directly on the text — behavior identical to standard text editing, requiring no learning curve. The same UX was adapted for patient self-registration and rigorously tested against a 30-second completion benchmark.
The Outcome
The voice-to-text system gave practitioners a faster, less disruptive way to capture clinical data, and the self-registration flow reduced patient intake time to under 30 seconds in testing. Both solutions were designed to scale, and the architecture was later extended to additional use cases within the organization.
