Replacing a product photo shoot with 3D-rendered visuals — giving a nutritional supplement brand full environmental control, transparent backgrounds, and assets that ended up on TV.
The Challenge
Nature's Health was preparing to photograph their product line when I suggested a different approach. A traditional photo shoot would produce good images for one context — but the brand needed assets that could be used across print, digital, and broadcast media without reshooting. Lighting, shadows, and backgrounds would be locked in from day one.
The Approach
Having recently been learning Maya, I proposed replacing the shoot entirely with 3D-rendered product visuals. Working in Maya, I modeled each product and art-directed a series of render environments — controlling lighting, reflections, and composition with precision no physical set could match. All assets were delivered with transparent backgrounds, making them immediately usable across any format or medium.
The Outcome
The rendered product series unified the brand's shelf presence and created a consistent visual identity across all materials. The same assets were later used in a television infomercial alongside a phone number call-to-action — a testament to their broadcast quality. The client gained a complete, reusable asset library and avoided the cost and inflexibility of traditional photography.
