The Challenge

A state-level emergency program with no visual consistency and a tight federal deadline

Listos California, backed by a FEMA grant, needed a complete suite of printed training materials ready for stakeholder presentations at state and national levels and conduct training for instructors and community members. The program had historically struggled with consistency across materials — and this engagement needed to solve that permanently while delivering at a scale that included two 100-page training manuals, 24 poster-size laminated boards, flyers, banners, business cards, and inserts.

The Approach

Planning the system before touching a single design

The success of this project came from the work done before any design began. I established a comprehensive style guide and asset system that could scale every component across every format — print, digital, and large-format — in both English and Spanish. Royalty-free vector imagery was carefully selected and edited for visual consistency so it complemented rather than distracted from the instructional content. Every deliverable was built from the same foundation, ensuring that materials could be reproduced, updated, or extended without starting over.

The Outcome

A system used across 11 languages in live training sessions

The engagement delivered every material on time and within scope — and solved the consistency problem Listos had struggled with for years. Instructors used the books and boards in training sessions conducted in English and Spanish and distributed the manuals in 11 different languages. The planning-first approach saved the organization significant time and cost, and the children's interactive app provided an additional engagement tool for the families of trainees.
