Identifying a gap in multilingual early childhood education, building the app, managing a remote team — then refactoring the whole thing in Unity to make it actually fun.
The Challenge
Early mobile app marketplaces were missing a quality option for young children to learn foundational concepts — colors, shapes, numbers, letters — across multiple languages in an interactive digital environment. The gap was clear, but building for toddlers on rapidly evolving hardware (including the launch of the original iPad and Retina displays) required both design precision and technical flexibility.
The Approach
I hired and managed a remote team of illustrators, audio designers, programmers, and voice-over artists while owning the UX and overall design direction as well as product management and roadmap. I coordinated deliverables to meet technical specifications that were shifting with each new device release. After launch, I identified that competing platforms offered more interactivity out of the box. I learned C# and Unity, then refactored the app from the ground up — adding gravity-based interactions, multi-drag mechanics, animated menus, and additional language support.
The Outcome
KIDpedia Academy achieved 10,000+ downloads and was licensed to Awe Learning, making it available in public libraries across the United States. The app continues to serve as an interactive multilingual learning tool for young children — particularly valued in settings like restaurants where parents want calm, educational engagement.
